My Journey: The Road to Miss New York

VENT Fitness is proud to sponsor Megan Cahill of Guilderland during her Miss New York campaign. Megan will be sharing her journey from preparation to the Miss New York State Scholarship competition

Miss New York is officially right around the corner. I have exactly one month left to squeeze in as much as I can! VENT fitness works so well with my schedule because of the hours, I can wake up super early and get a work out in or go later after my day is complete-my day’s are typically packed full from when I wake up to when I go to sleep!

What goes in to being crowned Miss New York

A lot of people aren’t familiar with what the judges are looking for in a potential Miss New York so I’ll break it down: 25% of your score is private interview, 35% of your score is talent, 20% is talent, 15% is lifestyle and fitness and 5% is on stage question. Lifestyle and fitness, better known as the swimsuit portion, is not solely judged on how you look in a bathing suit. The judges look for someone who is confident and healthy.

Let’s face it, not many people would choose to get up on stage in front of 250+ people and strut around in a bathing suit and 5 inch heels and the judges totally understand that. It’s been said that this portion is really judged from the neck up; if you’re having fun with it the judges will be able to see that. For me, the only way to prepare for this phase of competition is to get myself to a place where I WANT to go out on stage and walk around in my swimsuit. I really take this prep time to focus on myself and put in hard work so I can compete with the utmost confidence. VENT has been so supportive with helping me to do this. I’m able to get so much done because of the size of the gym and all of the classes that are offered at various times.

My VENT Experience

Not only is VENT an amazing fitness center that gives me exactly what I need, VENT also always participates in local charities and events, which is so great to see. The Children’s Miracle Network is the national platform for the Miss America Organization and as a local titleholder I am an ambassador to the local chapter of the Children’s Miracle Network. Saturday (April 23rd) there was a RIDE class at all VENT Clubs to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network. RIDE class is such a great workout and the donation went to a great cause. Thank you to all of the RIDErs and Instructors who donated their time! Talk to you all next month!
